October Watch List: Every Halloween Movie in Reverse Chronological Order

Horror movies happen year-round for me, but I tend to really live it up every October. This year, my plan is to watch the entire Halloween franchise in reverse. I’ve seen every film already (multiple times for most), but it’ll be fun to watch them all at once on a variety of formats (Blu-Ray, DVD, VHS).

Why in reverse order? Mostly because I want to get the crappier ones out of the way and end with the best of the series. I may even throw a few fan films in there, but I’m yet to find one that wasn’t borderline unwatchable.

For those of you who don’t know the whole franchise start-to-finish, here is my viewing schedule:


Rob Zombie’s H2
I’ve only seen this movie once, and I remember not liking it at all (although I do like Rob Zombie). Looking forward to getting this one out of the way first and seeing if it’s as unpleasant as I remember.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween
This is one of the most polarizing entries into the Halloween franchise. Diehard horror fans seem to hate it or love it (with more leaning towards the “hate” side). I don’t think it’s amazing, but I do enjoy it. Looking forward to rewatching it.

Halloween: Resurrection
The main thing I remember from this unfortunate installment is Busta Rhymes roundhouse kicking Michael Myers in the face. So, I guess I have that to look forward to?

Halloween H20: 20 Years Later
I haven’t seen this movie more than a couple of times, but I remember it being pretty much garbage. Jamie Lee Curtis returns, which is nice, but one cameo can’t save an entire train wreck.

Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (Theatrical Cut)
Paul Rudd playing a young Tommy Doyle (the little boy from the original film) is awesome, and it’s almost impossible to take him seriously in it. Side note: This was the first Halloween film I ever saw in the theaters.

Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (Producer’s Cut)
Before this Producer’s Cut was officially released, I was forced to watch this bootleg version of it. This version deals a bit more with the Thorne cult, and attempts to explain his supernatural abilities. It’ll be fun watching this one and the theatrical release back-to-back.

Halloween 5: Revenge of Michael Myers
As a little kid, this movie stressed me out so bad while watching it (the laundry chute scene particularly), and it’s the film that began my love for horror movies. I’ll never get sick of this one.

Halloween 4: Return of Michael Myers
Again, I have great memories watching this film (along with Halloween 5) as a kid, so it’s always a welcome viewing.


Halloween 3: Season of the Witch
Along with Rob Zombie’s Halloween, this third installment may be one of the other most polarizing entries in the franchise. Diehard Myers fans seem to hate it, while 80’s horror lovers enjoy it. I think it’s fantastic, and it’s one of my favorites in the series (never hurts to have Tom Atkins’s mustache in there, too).

Halloween 2
Definitely the second best entry in the series, Halloween II picks up right where the first film ended. I have yet to watch my Blu-Ray copy of this, so very stoked for this one.

Halloween
The original Halloween is my favorite movie with my favorite soundtrack starring my favorite final girl being stalked by my favorite slasher. In short: It’s my favorite.
